In our popular preschool classes, our youngest artists explore the world through art.  Children love the classroom designed just for them with chairs, table, aprons, and art supplies just their size. All preschool classes are in alignment with the Ohio Early Learning Content Standards and the Academic Content Standards for the Fine Arts from the Ohio Department of Education.  You can be confident in knowing that not only are you giving your child a wonderful creative experience, but you are also preparing your child for success in kindergarten.

Colors, Patterns, and Rhythms Pizzazz! This winter camp will take the blahs out of those cold, wintry days.  Children will look at the colors and patterns of winter as they create stained glass-like window ornaments, a night snow scene, a winter animal shadow box, patterned paper mittens and scarves, and a colorful and creative snowperson collage.

On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, Christine Steiner will teach Musikgarten classes which will explore the colors and patterns of music through singing, dancing, drumming and creative movement.  Together children will share in the joy of music making as they explore many simple instruments.  They will even be adding some “jazz” to their pizzazz.” Is your child in preschool?  Try our M, W, F or T, TH option designed so that no one has to miss this adventure.   Sign-in is 9:15-9:30.

The Shadows & Light of Winter

Have you ever noticed how beautiful the shadows and light of winter are?  In this class, students will explore how sunlight affects color as they assemble pre-cut glass pieces into a design to create a stained glass window ornament.  They will study how color is muted in winter by looking at paintings by Monet and Pissarro and then they will paint an acrylic landscape of a winter scene.  Students will also create a 3-D winter animal shadow box which will feature squirrels, birds, rabbits, and other animals.  Great for homeschoolers, too!

Musikgarten music and movement curriculum for parents and children is directed toward an aural development of the child through activities designed to nurture a loving musical bond between parent and child.  Families will be encouraged to actively make music together in their homes.  Because Musikgarten is an aural music education curriculum, the purchase of materials allows the child and parent to listen at home to the music used in class and is a necessary part of the program.  Attire for all Musikgarten classes:  comfortable clothes for moving.  Parents and children will be sitting on the floor. How to Have a Successful Audition

Twain’s Tales is a collection of five short stories by the master American storyteller-Samuel Clemens, also known as Mark Twain.  The stories are “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County,” “Science v. Luck,” “The Joke That Made Ed’s Fortune,”  “The Belated Russian Passport” and “Is He Living or Is He Dead?” – as well as the fence-painting chapter from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.  The play takes place on the front porch of a general store inHannibal, Missouri in the late 1800s.  The locals – the storekeeper and his wife, a printer, a reporter and a riverboat pilot – spend the morning entertaining each other by seeing who can spin the tallest tale.  This play is full of wit, humor, great stories, and interesting characters.   I don’t know who will be more entertained – you as actors, or the audience.

This play has a large, flexible cast.  Everyone ages 10 to adult who auditions will be assigned a role. Children under the age of 10 may be accepted based on audition and at the discretion of the director.

This class is designed for the adult student who has no formal ballet training or who has studied ballet in the past and wishes to resume training.  Emphasis will be on correct placement, body alignment, toning and stretching. The class will advance at the pace appropriate to the developing skills of the students. Students are not expected to wear leotards and tights, but should wear clothes that are suitable for movement that fit appropriately so that the instructor can see posture and the lines of the body.

Class placement is assigned by the faculty.  There are seven assigned levels:  Advanced Beginner, Intermediate I, II, III, IV and Advanced A & B.  Class placement is assigned by the Classical Ballet Faculty.  Students new to the school must arrange to attend an audition class by contacting the Front Desk. 

Wayne Center Ballet is the resident company of the school, providing the community with quality dance performances and performing experience for its dancers who are chosen by audition.  The repertoire includes an annual spring performance to be held in March 2010, as well as a full-length Nutcracker in even numbered years.  New this season for all Classical Ballet students will be a Demonstration Performance to be held in May, 2010.
